To post a message send it as an email to folktas@green.net.au. Messages must be "ON TOPIC" i.e., related to folk and traditional music and dance events and media in Tasmania, or of interest to devotees of such music and dance in Tasmania. Messages about other things, no matter how worthy or interesting, are strictly not allowed. Please read and follow the guidelines below when posting a message to the list. They are there to make the list more user friendly. Recently there have been several instances where people have not checked their message and had to follow up with one or two correction messages. If there are too many messages we get people cancelling their list membership, so please help us by adhering to these guidelines. Your co-operation is much appreciated. The list is a valuable information resource and we need as many members as possible. SUBJECT LINEPlease preface the title of your message with the location or an easily understood identifier for the event. Most people decide whether to read the message body by the subject line alone, so make it concise and appealing. Please also ensure that you give full details of where events are and don't assume too much local knowledge! So give street addresses and contact details as well please.ATTACHMENTS and HTMLPlease note that you cannot send attachments to the folktas list. People keep doing this and do not perhaps realise that their attachment is automatically removed by the list engine (for security reasons). Embedded images and logos are also attachments and will not be shown. Similarly nicely presented HTML documents will also not be sent to the list. Your message needs to be formatted as PLAIN TEXT only. MULTIPLE POSTINGSPlease don't send several messages about the same event within a small timeframe. Acceptable practice is to advertise an event roughly between 1 or 2 months in advance followed by a reminder a week or so before the event. Larger events may need more notice and will often attract the interest and corresponding posting from other members on related promotion. So there is no benefit in your posting appearing as spam to members. CHECKING MESSAGESPlease check your email BEFORE you send it out. Is the date correct? have you put contact details? Have you given the venue? Do people know how to get there? Please spell check your message and keep it short - we are all overloaded with email already. CC LISTSPlease do not add messages to FolkTas to CC lists. As a matter of privacy many people understandably do not want their name and email address sent to hundreds of people they do not know. If you include a list of people on a CC list as well as the FolkTas list, all these names and addresses are sent to all our 280 or so members. So please, send messages to Folktas as single separate postings, and do not include the Folktas email address on CC lists. As a general practice circular emails should always be sent BCC to preserve privacy. MODERATIONThis list is not moderated. Your message will be sent to the list within minutes automatically. We ask that messages be restricted to those about folk music and dance in Tasmania, or things of direct interest to devotees of such activities who live here. We take a broad definition of the F word FOLK. The onus is on you the user to respect the other list members and adhere to the guidelines! Thanks for your understanding. |
