Rosie Burgess
Running a grassroots independent record label, touring nationally, recording a new album and working on two musical projects might seem a lot to some, but to Rosie Burgess being busily up to her ears in the music scene comes as naturally as breathing.

With the award of a Victoria Rocks Touring Grant in Jan 2008 having propelled her around Australia on national tour, Rosie Burgess has emerged onto the Australian music scene to firmly secure a place for herself and her unique brand of urban folkroots music. Playing straight from the heart, Burgess consistently shows us why she is being called "one of our country's best rising stars" [Coastfest 2008, NSW].

Faye Blais
When someone melodically declares, “I wanna show you the inside, so won’t you come in,” you listen. This is the captivating and honest nature of Faye Blais, the singer/songwriter that has been seen swooning crowds from around campfires in Northern Ontario to the stages of Taiwan, Thailand and Australia for more than ten years.

Rebecca Moore & Adam Cousens

4:00 PM, Sunday Jul 5, 2009

Rebecca Moore has just been nominated for the Best Female Vocalist Award at the 2008 ABC Newcastle Music Awards. She recently performed at the Cobargo Folk Festival, The Falls Festival, Marion Bay Tasmania 08/09, the Newcastle Blues Festival, Manchester Lane Melbourne and the 2009 Illawarra Folk Festival, Bulli NSW. Rebecca has supported some of Australia ’s best blues and roots artists such as Xavier Rudd, the John Butler Trio, Melanie Horsnell, Jez, Archie Roach and the Back Sliders (Rob Hirst of Midnight Oil). She has played shows with The Church, Margaret Urlich and Things of Stone and Wood. In 2007 Rebecca placed equal first in the People's Choice Award of the Good Folk Song Competition at the Brunswick Hotel in Melbourne. She also placed third in the Grand Final of the live section in the same competition. Rebecca is currently working on her next album with Dave Sparks (The Lime Spiders, The Saints) at Pirate Studios, Tathra NSW. The newest demo from this record is “Pink Lake”. This song is currently available at www.myspace.com/rebeccamooresydney. She has been compared to Tori Amos, Patti Smith, and Joni Mitchell; however she maintains a distinct individuality and an awesome creative presence.

Borstal Boys 10 anniversary supported by Blue Mosquitos

7:30 PM, Friday Jul 10, 2009
Borstal Boys Profile

The Borstal Boys are a five piece Celtic and Irish band with a rockier edge which comprises a mix of Fiddle, Mandolin, Bodhron, Banjo, Guitar and Bass. With influences eminating out of the Celtic, Americana, Bluegrass and Rock genre's the band meets a broad range of interests. The set list ranges from the Pogues, Christie Moore and traditional reels and jigs through to U2, the Beatles, Van Morrison to AC/DC for good measure.

Coming together in 1999 the original members were closer to being boys when they began, and although today the songs are sounding a bit smoother with age, the Borstal Boys haven't let a decade of maturity put an end to the laddish impulse of launching into a raucous break neck tune set when called for.

Blue Mosquitoes Profile  “Daideo and the Blue Mosquitoes” have an energetic vibrant sound - mixing traditional Celtic music with contemporary sounds. Their influences have been a mixture of folk legends and local/national bands including inspiration from Sunas and the Borstal Boys. Think the Pogues with mellow undertones of Dougie Mclean and a harsh hint of the Cranberries. Basically the Blue Mosquitoes are aiming to take folk music to a whole new generation and have started to introduce their own material that offers an exciting fusion between past and present.

The Stillsons launch debut album Circus

With a dedicated following at their helm, Melbourne-based indie/folk group The Stillsons are preparing to launch their debut album – Circus.

The four-piece ensemble has risen from humble beginnings to emerge as one of the hottest young acts touring Melbourne’s live music circuit.

Their unique sound is a cocktail of traditional and contemporary influences, polished with the enchanting duel-vocals of lead guitarist Justin Bernasconi and drummer Cat Canteri.

The strong lead male/female dynamic is strengthened by the impeccable rhythm of lap-steel guitarist Ross Richards and the band’s newest member, bassist Jesse Mac.

Circus is a collection of eloquent narratives and intelligent harmonies written by Bernasconi and Canteri, who reflect on a range of personal and controversial issues.

The album’s first single Monday Morning is a light-hearted tribute to those lazy mornings as reality finally settles in.

Title track Circus, tells the story of an English girl travelling to Australia, determine to hold on to her previous life back home. Bernasconi, who wrote the track, reflects heavily on personal experience, having moved from England four years ago.
“Australia is like a Circus compared to the dreariness of the UK, yet sometimes people feel the need to recreate their old lives, despite moving 12,000 miles away.”

Their second single Charity and Ghosts (Where’s Your Mama Gone?) is an emotional depiction of 10 year old British ‘orphan’ who were taken from England in order to populate Australia in the 1930s.

Supported by fabulous local duo guitar & vocals
Nic Courto & Lyndsay Newitt.
